During Christmas time people like to watch movies with joyful and cheery energy, with fun and wholesome plots that leave you in awe at the film’s end. Some of these films are produced by Hallmark, and they have been making them for a long period of time. These iconic Christmas movies were first presented in 2009. Many of these films have a theme of one person’s business failing, finding someone to love, and they usually have many predictable endings.
With these being some of the well-known tropes in these types of movies, people still watch them regardless. These movies are seen as optimistic with happy resolutions. Over 30 films are produced yearly with the filming time being as short as 15 days or three months with budgets less than $5 million dollars. With this constant push of new content, it leads to low ratings as the films are seen as uncreative. This leaves the question of whether people use cable due to the viewer count dropping. Most Hallmark movies are streamed from cable channels such as Peacock or the Hallmark channel.
This is because fewer people have been using cable in the past years and are switching to online streaming services such as Netflix. But another problem is needing a subscription. This content is left behind a paywall. With most of these people already paying for regular subscriptions, it seems like a problem.
With all of these things being said, it’s a bit of a shock as to how Hallmark continues to have a large loving audience who continues to watch these movies, showing how the holiday spirit can be very strong throughout many people.
