High school is stressful. With all the homework, tests and extracurriculars, there’s never enough time to get everything done.
Not only are there a lot of things to be worried about, but there are also many distractions.
Senior Aya Aani said, “I am never able to focus on my homework because of how loud my siblings are.”
For many students, music has become a key part of their study routine, helping them focus and keep out any distractions.
One of the benefits of listening to music while studying is its ability to block out distractions. It’s hard to focus on reading when you can’t even hear yourself think. Music helps create a controlled environment where the outside world gets shut out leaving you with a room full of concentration.
The type of music you listen to while studying is also really important.
“I like to listen to upbeat music, but when studying, I find myself drawn to calm and softer music,” said senior Laniaya Glasgow.
Also listening to a specific song while trying to memorize or study can really help. By repeatedly pairing a particular song with certain concepts or material, your brain begins to associate the song with the information you’re trying to remember. This connection can make it easier to recall the material later, as the song acts as a cue to trigger your memory.
Music has become an important part of students’ daily life allowing them to stay productive even when the assignments seem unbearable.
