The FVHS wrestling team kicked off their season with winning their first match against Wake Forest High School on Wednesday, marking a strong start to what promises to be an exciting season for the wrestlers.
Though the victory was a great start, wrestlers have highlighted a few areas the team will need to focus on in order to be fully prepared for the rest of the season. One area in particular was cardio.
Senior Nehemiah Ortega said, “The weakest point is probably our stamina and conditioning just because it’s the beginning of the season. People have to get back in shape.”
The upcoming tournament, set to take place at East Wake High School this weekend, will be a test for the wrestlers, giving them a chance to see how they play against the other teams and what they need to work on for upcoming matches.
The team is excited for the tournaments coming up and believe they will perform well, not only individually, but as a group.
Senior Michael Piper said, “Most of us are excited to wrestle any day, but especially tournaments because we’re surrounded by our favorite sport for 12 hours.”
FVHSl is holding a tournament this year. The team is excited to bring the tournament back, offering an excellent opportunity for the wrestlers to face off against a variety of teams in one day full of wrestling.
Our tournament is set to happen on M.L.K. weekend, and we have a home match on Dec. 10. Make sure to come out and support our Bengal wrestlers.
