For years, the athletic teams at FVHS have proudly brought home conference and even state championships, showcasing the talent and hard work of athletes across all sports.
Despite these successes, students have noticed that not all championship banners and awards have not been displayed, which has left some wondering why these past achievements haven’t been more celebrated.
The school’s athletic department has confirmed that they are actively working to display these accomplishments in a new, more visible way, ensuring that the hard earned trophies, banners, and plaques are displayed for all to see.
These signs will feature the names of teams and the years they won championships, as well as the sports in which they competed.
Athletic director James Mountford said, “We are working on going through the archives and making a sign in the stadium with all the conference wins and years.”
The school is currently honoring student athletes and their achievements with a hall of fame and a sign in the gym showcasing names of students who have made individual championships.
Rather than hanging miscellaneous banners, Mountford has also gotten the sound panels in the gym wrapped so that our state championships can be recognized and look uniform.
FVHS is coming up on its 50th year anniversary at Bengal Boulevard and the athletic department has big plans.
Mountford said, “We are planning on honoring our top 50 athletes of all time.”
These recognitions are planned to happen during half time, in the sport that the top 50 players played for. Mountford has also been working with our principal, they together came up with the idea of bringing back some old sports jerseys and wearing them during these games.
The athletic department also plans on having a poster with old players and the old teams we had at FVHS.
With the athletic department’s efforts, it seems that soon the entire school will have the chance to celebrate and be inspired by the legacy built by our sports teams.
