While summer may be the season of sun-soaked beaches and a three month vacation from school, autumn is often said to be the superior season by far. With the cozy atmosphere, thick sweaters, and the anticipation of the approaching holidays, autumn is a ten out of ten for aesthetics. There is always something more warm and cozy to the idea of autumn than any other season.
“The weather is more comfortable,” said sophomore James Vecchione.
As we all know, North Carolina is notorious for its extremely humid summers. The actual temperature is not the problem, it is the humidity. It feels like the air around you is stuffy and thick. Autumn means the end of having to worry about sunscreen and muggy temperatures all day. Like spring, autumn is the perfect balance between hot and cold, though it leans more towards colder temperatures since it is closer to winter. It is the best temperature.
“In my opinion autumn is better than summer because I love going to the football games with my friends and going hunting. I also love how you can layer your clothes and do more with your outfits,” said sophomore Hannah Epp.
Autumn is also a season of very aesthetically pleasing color boards and activities. Comfy sweaters, long pants, hoodies, thick blankets, hot drinks by a campfire, and many more are more than likely to be displayed on any autumn themed Pinterest board. The aesthetic of autumn itself makes the season better.
“I do think the appealing aspect of fall aesthetic does have a lot to do with it. I think people love the idea of the cooler weather and the holiday traditions like going to pumpkin patches in October,” said Epp.
The holidays are also a large part of the season with Halloween and Thanksgiving being major nationally celebrated holidays. Halloween calls for more spooky decorations and carved pumpkins, while November is full of debates on when you should start decorating for Christmas. The season has a whole decoration culture around it, which makes the season even more enjoyable. The holidays are a great way to get together with family and catch up on years worth of stories, and enjoy great food.
“My favorite part of autumn is Thanksgiving. I love gathering around our giant table and enjoying the company of my family,” said Epp.
Autumn is a season full of comfort and cozy atmospheres. From family reunions for the holidays to decorating for Halloween, this season is full of enjoyable activities and events that are specific to the time, and are best enjoyed during the transition months between summer and winter. Autumn’s comfortable weather and vibes make the season all the more enjoyable.
