In a memorable Friday night game, the Fuquay-Varina Bengals claimed a decisive 38-17 victory over the South Garner Titans, sealing their success with a strong offense, pre-game rituals, and a new school record. The Bengals celebrated their senior night with a resounding win at Bengal Stadium Oct. 25, sending off their upperclassmen in style before a great game at South Garner High School.

Senior tight end Connor Everett said, “Senior night gave the seniors something to play for and the juniors too.”

In an impressive feat during the second quarter right before halftime, senior Bengals kicker Juan Drake made school history once again, shattering his own record with a 51-yard field goal that electrified the crowd. Drake’s achievement was a highlight and a testament to his skill and dedication.

Fuquay-Varina’s win didn’t come by accident. Head coach Jeb Hall  implemented some tactics that seem to have struck a chord with the players. In a unique ritual, the Bengals took the field barefoot during practices to “connect with the field” and mentally prepare for the intense match-up.

Additionally, the players embraced a playful yet serious mantra, treating the football “like a baby” during practices and on the field, reminding each other with phrases like “not going to drop the baby” and “need to protect the baby.” This mentality seemed to work for the Bengals, who played with controlled focus and minimized turnovers, executing their plays with precision.

Despite the Titans efforts to rally, Fuquay-Varina’s disciplined offense and creative approach proved unstoppable. The Bengals passing game combined with a steady ground attack kept the Titans’ defense on their toes throughout the game. With a 38-17 lead by the final whistle, the Bengals walked off the field victorious, leaving their seniors with a night to remember.

“One of the best moments was when we all got together and were celebrating,” said senior Julian Ferger.

The Bengals, hyped by the win, remain hopeful as they prepare to face Willow Spring High School this Friday in the much-anticipated “Battle of the Bell.” The game has high stakes; if the Bengals secure a win, they will make it to the playoffs. Fans are encouraged to support the team by purchasing “Battle of the Bell” T-shirts available at the Athletic Booster Store, with proceeds going towards team support.

Assistant coach Brian Harrington said, “I am very optimistic for the upcoming game against Willow.”

The night ended exactly as the Bengals had hoped, finally adding another victory to their ranking. With their eyes now set on the “Battle of the Bell” against our rivals Willow Spring, the team is focused and unfazed.

As senior quarterback Connor Castle said, in order to win, “We have to keep a clear head and not care what anyone thinks, even though it’s a rival.”
