November is almost here and that means the winter warmth drive is about to begin. Many people donate used or new winter clothing to give to the homeless and to families who can’t afford nice winter wear. Schools, churches and even big companies participate in this event to help the homeless survive the brutal weather.
There are many ways to contribute to the winter warmth drive, from creating your own clothing, to sending donations like gloves, winter hats, scarves and socks. There are even more options to send that are not just clothing. Small tissues and chapstick are also essential to combat the dry winter season.
Senior Sydney Clark said, “I think it’s an amazing idea and it will definitely help a lot of people and even help the people donating the clothing too.”
With the winter season getting colder and finding warmth even harder many people can’t afford clothing to protect themselves from the nipping winter air. Many homeless people die because of the cold temperatures without having the proper clothing to stay warm.
Senior Xavier Houston said, “It will be a good service to provide for homeless people so that they are able to get back on their feet through these harsh times. Especially now that it’s getting colder, being able to have warm clothes is essential.”
Creating care packages for the unhoused community can really help society. One Warm Coat is an organization that donates lightly used coats and other wears to people in need. The Church of the Good Shepherd, located in Raleigh is hosting a youth program dedicated to donating winter clothing every year in hopes of providing to the community.
