Kaitlyn Matthews is a senior and well-known student leader at Fuquay Varina High School. As president of many clubs and a member of many more, Matthews is involved in many parts of our school. Her involvement in so many clubs shows dedication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Matthews holds leadership positions in several clubs, including president of Juniorettes and Key Club and upperclassmen representative of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. In addition to these officer positions, she is a committed member of HOSA, Student Council, Student Ambassadors, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honors Society, and Rho Kappa.
“I want to be able to be a part of something that not only can serve the community we live in, but also try to create a stronger sense of community in our school. I think clubs do a great job of that,” said Matthews.
These clubs have helped Matthews develop leadership, organization, and time management skills. They have also helped her be much more social and gain valuable communication skills. She used to have a big fear of public speaking, but once she took on these leadership roles, she was able to come out of her shell and learn how to be a confident public speaker.
Some major influences in Matthews’ life have been dance teacher Deborah Gray and theatre teacher Paige MacGovern.
“They both have created such a safe and welcoming environment every single time I walk into their classrooms. I hope I can create a similar environment in every place I lead and every person in my clubs feels that same sense of community,” said Matthews.
After high school, she plans to attend a four-year college and major in nursing. Matthews’ career aspiration is to be a traveling nurse and to be able to see and work in many different places. She also wants to use nursing for mission trips to help all kinds of people in need from all over the world.
