The state fair is a yearly tradition that draws thousands of visitors, offering a mix of entertainment, food and fun. Between the many attractions, the different rides and food options are some of the biggest highlights. These things change greatly in popularity depending on each person’s preference.
From heart pounding roller coasters to the charm of the ferris wheel, everyone has their favorites. Some thrill seekers are drawn to the faster adrenaline pumping rides, while others prefer the smaller slower rides. Each ride has something different to offer, and the fairgoers often find themselves struggling to debate which one is the best.
“No matter how many times I go, the rides are always my favorite part about the fair,” said sophomore Kaitlin Villano.
Food is also a major factor, with many options that appeal to a wide range of tastes. The classic fair staples like funnel cakes, corn dogs, and cotton candy remain favorites. Each year brings new and creative offerings. From deep-fried creations to newer food combinations, food vendors strive to pull more people in with new creations.
“Each year I look forward to the funnel cakes, but this year I’m looking forward to trying some of the new additions of treats and different combinations that I’ve heard about,” said sophomore Will Ihnatolya.
The wide variety of foods and rides strongly reflects the diversity of the fairgoers themselves. While many come for the thrill of the rides and new flavors, others seek comfort in the familiar tastes and experiences they’ve enjoyed for the past year.
There are a handful of new things that have been added to the 2024 state fair. This year two rides have been added. The first one being the State Fair Slide, a 210-foot slide, and the Candyland Adventure, a 130-foot long funhouse.
This year’s food list is a combination of two great eating forces, fair food tradition and TikTok. The first thing being added is pickle-flavored Dr. Pepper. Other trends seem to include breaded bologna fries, pickles in just about every kind of situation and new plates of nachos.
The state fair is a place where everyone can find something to enjoy at any age, whether it’s a thrilling ride, a classic food item, or something new. The mix of tradition and change ensures that every fairgoer leaves with a favorite memory, making the fair a cherished event for the next years to come.
