The FVHS color guard is a dance team but with equipment like flags, rifles, and sabers. They perform at halftime with the band and compete against other schools.

The FVHS color guard show is titled Into the Light and is about coming home from space after dealing with many difficulties such as aliens, black holes, and their spaceship breaking down. The flags are also themed coming home from space along with the costumes the guard wears. 

According to junior Samantha Williams, ¨The season is going well so far. We have a great group and I can’t wait to see how we do at our next comps.¨

Williams really enjoys the people on the team and throwing tosses. She is super confident in this year’s team. The color guard performances last about seven minutes.

Williams also said, ¨I feel like guard is better this year in the way that we are learning some more advanced choreography.¨

The last competition FVHS color guard competed in went really well.  

William said, ¨We had a lot of problems such as wind that were out of our control, but we recovered well.¨

The team struggled with the wind and the props rolling away but in the end the FVHS color guard ended up placing third in the competition. 

The next performance will be held on Oct. 19 at Festival of Bands at Bengal Stadium.
