The FVHS womens golf team is undefeated so far this season. Their standing is 1 overall, and they got first place four times in conference tournaments. These golfers are known for working together to support each other as a team.
Freshman Payton Brewer said, “The best part of being on the golf team for me is having a small group of people who enjoy the same things as you, who also don’t judge you and are very kind.”
The womens golf team has had tons of shots.
Senior Katie Faircloth said, “I think we’ve all had great shots throughout the season, but the best is when someone makes a long putt.”
The Bengals womens golf team has faced lots of competitors, but some were tougher than others, including our cross-town rivals, Willow Spring High School, who the Lady Bengals beat in a close 10 point match, with a final score of 162-178.
“One of our toughest opponents is a sophomore from Southeast Raleigh,” said Faircloth.
On the contrary to that, Fuquay has blocked Southeast Raleigh from the podium in all but the first Conference match. Southeast nabbed bronze in the first match of the year, but since then, they haven’t gotten higher than fourth place.
Freshman Murray Buddin said Willow Spring High School’s team was their toughest opponent.
Despite the season’s success, members of the team still believe they can improve.
“Sometimes I chose the wrong clubs, since I’m still new to golf, so [I’m working on] understanding the distances better,” said Buddin.
Fuquay’s dominance in womens Golf is characterized by their rotation of freshmen to seniors. They always have at least one really good senior that can teach or mentor the freshmen, in addition to the coach’s insight.
The womens golf team’s next and final match is Oct. 15 at Bentwinds Country Club and starts at 1:00 p.m.
