After many years of waiting eagerly for a Minecraft movie, fans have something new to look forward to next spring. The trailer for the first live-action Minecraft movie, “A Minecraft Movie,” was released on Sept. 4 and has sparked mixed reactions from fans.
Minecraft is a sandbox game made up of only cubes. Players can experience endless possibilities in Minecraft, from building a village to traveling to the Nether and defeating the Ender Dragon.
Jared Hess will be directing the upcoming movie and the main cast members include Jason Momoa as Garrett Garrison, Jack Black as Steve, Emma Myres as Natalie and Danielle Brooks as Dawn.
According to the official Warner Bros. website, the movie will be about four people who are sucked through a portal into a strange world. On their journey they run into a master crafter, Steve, who helps them navigate through the world and survive. They learn that they must master the world to survive and escape.
Since the release of the trailer, fans have had mixed reactions. While some viewers are excited to see their favorite game become a movie, most viewers feel as though the trailer was underwhelming. Many fans think that the trailer doesn’t reflect the Minecraft spirit, causing them to question if the movie will live up to its expectations.
“Minecraft was a big part of my childhood so I am really excited for it even though I am a little disappointed,” said junior Paisley Koch. “I feel like they could have done a bit better and made it an animated movie instead of a live-action. I feel like that would have suited the concept of the game more.”
With the movie releasing next spring, viewers have hope that “A Minecraft Movie” will meet their expectations and fully embody the meaning of Minecraft.
