Roads are closed due to construction all over Fuquay-Varina. Students and bus drivers are taking longer routes to pick up kids causing them to be late for school and miss lessons. With other roads closed and new ones backed up with traffic, student drivers could be in danger leaving campus to beat the rush before it begins.
An accident has already occurred on FVHS campus during the second day of the school year. To beat the rush of parents picking up their kids from carpool and students running to their cars to leave, a white car collided in the back of a dark green truck. This is causing stress among students and especially parents. No students were harmed and the police helped deal with the situation on site.
Junior Dominic Austin said, “I think the construction is making the roads worse because now it’s all congested and we’re all in one place. It’s hard to get into school with all the traffic.”
After a week of school passed, one of the roads that allows students to exit the school is now open to use. But instead of a nicely paved road there were potholes filled with gravel, uneven pavement, and a bumpy ride in the car.
Senior Natalie Sanchez said, “I was talking to my friend yesterday about it. She said she couldn’t find a route to school because they were re-paving all of the roads.” One week after the road was opened, new pavement was put down making a smoother ride for all to use.
Now that both roads are open, traffic has slowly dissipated over time, and buses are back in their regular routine. Some areas are still under development but soon there will be better roads and even bigger establishments to come.
