The rising ninth grade athletics night was held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, to promote the different sports at Fuquay Varina High School to the future freshmen who will be attending the school.
This event featured various sports at the school including soccer, softball, golf, wrestling, and tennis. Tables were set up for each sport with members from the teams there to promote their sport to the attendees with information about the team and how they function.
“I was going around to everyone, as well as staying at my table, and trying to promote wrestling,” said junior Zion Warren, captain of the womens wrestling team, who attended the event to promote her sport.
The goal of this event was to provide information to the rising freshmen of FVHS to get them excited about a sport, and hopefully, to try out for one of the teams. FVHS is always looking to grow its athletics with recruits to create diversity on the teams and open up positions for underclassmen.
The event was also exciting for members of the athletics teams as well, as they met potential new athletes and got to know them better.
“It was exciting talking to the people and getting them interested in what we do in wrestling,” said Warren.
The event was a success as a large number of people attended to learn more about the athletics programs that are offered here at FVHS and potentially find their future high school sports. Not only were the rising ninth graders provided information about the sports here, but they were also provided with new friends that have similar sports interests as them.
We hope to see the attendees of this event on next year’s sports teams, as we welcome in the new Bengals recruits.
