A program that is not as well known to teenagers here locally is the Fuquay Varina Police cadet program. The program is available for youth ages 14-21, both male and female. To get into this program, they have meetings for you to attend, and if you want to join you have to fill out a form.
If you want to be a police officer or work somewhere in law enforcement, this can give you a good taste of what it’s like. This program has been out there for awhile, but after Covid, they are trying to build it back up.
As a group, you work together through scenarios and do training that police officers have to do. You get a lot of chances to see what goes on behind the scenes and create good friendships with officers.
They meet once a week at the police station with officers that run the program. They also have positions for kids to become leaders.
Police cadets also volunteer a lot to help out around the community, so if you are trying to get volunteer hours, this can help you a lot.
With the training you get as a group, you can go to competitions and travel with the money you raised together. Everything is free, including the uniform. The only thing you have to buy is a pair of black boots.
This program allows you get the knowledge and skills that most people don’t have because you are being exposed to professional law enforcement culture.
You can find out more details, or if you are planning to join the program and need more guidance, checkout the Fuquay Varina police website. You can also contact the leaders: Lieutenant Anthony Hodges 919-567-3932 or Corporal Brett Kain at 919-567-3917.
