The womens soccer team at FVHS continues to dominate the competition deep into the playoff season as they come off a 3-2 win against Green Level on Monday, May 13.

The team has continued to have a successful season against their opponents having a 12-1-1 record. The womens soccer team is now the only FVHS team to remain in the playoffs as all other mens and womens teams have been eliminated.

In their latest match, they played well, winning against Green Level with a final score of 3-2.

“The first goal was a sigh of relief, the second goal was just excitement, and the third goal was just pure joy from everyone, bench to forwards, to backs, everybody,” said Meghan Gannon, head coach of the FVHS womens soccer team.

The team went up 2-0 in the first half of the game. The team then settled into the game and went on to win 3-2 with the final goal happening with approximately 12 minutes left on the clock.

The three goals scored throughout the game came from freshman Violet Terrasse, junior Molly Shields, and senior Addy Geiss.

“The goal with 11 minutes and 52 seconds left was the game winner by Addy Geiss. It was actually a really cool team goal, Leila with the assist pass to Addy,” said Gannon.

The team not only presented great offensive effort but also kept up a great defensive effort throughout the game with efforts from defenders Peyton Buffaloe, Brooklyn Gonerway, Rachael Cunningham, Erin Webre, Claire Pulling, and goalie Madi Austiff.

“We were prepared ahead of time; the kids worked really hard. They listened and executed well and did everything we asked for and more,” said Gannon.

“The other night was a lot of pride. Then we found out our [next] opponent was Holly Springs, which is our longest standing opponent and cross town rivals. They’re gonna be our biggest and toughest opponent so far. Now our next step is just preparing for them,” said Gannon.

The team continues to prepare for their next game against the Holly Springs Golden Hawks. Come support the womens soccer team at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16,  at Holly Springs High School.
