As the spring semester comes to a close, many students are anticipating the Fuquay Varina High School annual VolleyBros tournament coming up at the end of the month.
VolleyBros is a six versus six standard mens volleyball tournament with teams consisting of members in each grade level. The tournament will begin Friday, May 24, after school and will go on for about two hours.
The tournament will have a single two-hour practice session two days before the tournament, Wednesday, May 22, after school from 5-7 p.m. Participants are expected to create their own jersey along with their team members.
“The fun part about VolleyBros is that it’s student-led. The team members are expected to show up to practice and work as a team to create a good team and to create their own jerseys,” said sophomore Laurel Feldner from the FVHS Student Council.
Each team has a maximum of ten members led by a member of the womens volleyball team as their coach. The first matches will be between the freshman and seniors, then sophomores and juniors, and will be ten minutes long. Afterwards, the winners of each game will face off against each other in a best of three games, each to a score of twenty one. In order to win one of the games, the team has to win by at least two points.
“The girls on the volleyball team are leading the event, they’ll be coaching and judging,” said Feldner.
The games are a fun competition between grade levels and serve as a chance for the men at FVHS to enjoy and play volleyball, as the school lacks an actual mens team.
As the countdown for VolleyBros continues to tick down, those interested are excited for the tournament to commence. Get excited and come out to support those participating in the annual VolleyBros tournament after school on Friday, May 24, 2024.
