The FVHS mens golf season has come to an end, and there have been some great performances by Tucker Stevens and Rede Jessee.
The golf team is a young team with the roster being mostly freshmen. They have four freshmen, two sophomores, and one junior. Their team ended up placing sixth in conference overall, and out of these players, two of them made it to the playoffs.
“I think the season went about what I expected. I figured we would be somewhere between fourth and sixth place. We lost seven seniors from last year’s team, so it was a major rebuilding effort. But we did send two freshmen to Regionals, which was a positive,” said coach Brian Harpster.
Freshmen Tucker Stevens and Rede Jessee qualified for the regional golf championship due to their outstanding performance during the season. The regional matches took place on Monday, May 6.
Stevens placed 17th in conference this season and for regionals he placed 65th.
“To prepare for the championship I practiced every day and tried to stay in the moment, doing my best,” said Stevens.
For Jessee, he placed top ten in the conference and placed 38th in regionals.
“To become a better golfer I have put in a lot of hard work and practice. Qualifying for regionals helped me put all of my hard work together with everything that I have done over the season,” said Jessee.
Making it to regionals as freshmen is a huge achievement for both Jessee and Stevens.
“I was really proud of the effort that not only Rede and Tucker put in, but the whole team. Everyone on the team seemed to get better as the season ended, and all seven golfers played in at least one match this season. I feel that the golf team has a bright future ahead with the whole team returning next year. The only place this team can go is up,” said Harpster.
With their impressive swings and drive to succeed, the mens golf team putted their way to an impressive season, and next year looks to be even better.
