Before buying a ticket for the movies, you’re going to watch all the trailers online. You are going to pick the most interesting one or the one that is advertised the most. But does seeing these short clips ruin the whole concept?
Movies are not a surprise anymore because the trailers spoil it. You form an opinion right when you watch the trailer. This may make you not interested anymore before you even watch a movie that could have actually been good.
Trailers are known to tell the story, but they can really mislead the audience. They choose the most appealing clips in the movie to show, but this could get the viewers hopes up sometimes. Giving away key points and twists can also make the movie not interesting anymore.
People like to enjoy not knowing what’s next. A trailer can ruin this. An example, ¨Terminator Genisys¨ spoiled John Connor´s role as a villain. This got rid of the surprise enjoyment for the audience.
Another is the ¨Black Adam¨ trailer that revealed the death of Black Adam’s son. The producers wanted anyone who watched the trailer to be tricked when they watched the movie, by showing Black Adam holding his dead son. But anyone who watched the trailer before watching the movie knows the truth.
Spoilers are common for action movies. They tend to give away guest stars, heroes, enemies, deaths and teams.
¨I like them and I think they are a good idea to have to give people an inside on the movie,¨ said sophomore Kensley Harrison.
Taking this risk of tricking viewers can get you bad ratings, ruining viewers expectations. Should the movie directors care more about the trailer views or movie views?
Before watching a movie, try to judge based on the genre, age-rating, and cover. This can allow you to go into the theater with an open mind and not feel like the movie is missing something from the trailer.
