Many students think that school is overrated because we tend to stress over the amount of work school gives us. School may be stressful, but it is not overrated. The experience and knowledge you gain from high school can mature and shape a student’s future.
As we go to high school, students learn to pick up social cues, time management, and experiment with different kinds of working environments, depending on different classes.
“High school is important because it helps you become more independent. We are constantly making our own decisions, one of the decisions being our career path. School is also great for exposing students to the world, where we can experiment and experience our own struggles,” said junior Justice Lucas.
Without school, students might not be able to learn how to grow, mature, or deal with struggles in life. It’s an opportunity to grow as a person.
“Yes, I do think it’s overrated. I think it’s overrated because school puts a lot of pressure on students, being that students should be able to experience and grow in different ways. School is only going to get us far in life, and at the end of the day, it is not something that defines who you are,” said junior Jordin Weckmann.
Weckmann’s point is valid. School takes up most of our time as youth, it could put us in a place where we feel the need to fit into the social standards.
Weckmann explained what we can do, instead of being in school.
“I think that they should learn about themselves by traveling or getting a job,” said Weckmann.
Although traveling and working all the time might sound fun, to know the basic skills and knowledge, as well as having social interaction with other students are important.
