Apple is being accused of monopolizing their customers with their products by having exclusive services such as iMessage and ApplePay. This company makes a lot of money from their customers using a variety of their services and products. This makes the customer want to stay with Apple because they rely on these services that only Apple offers.
Along with their services, Apple has prevented apps and accessories that would make people less dependent on their iPhones, iPads, and Macbooks. By doing this, it makes the customer use more of Apple’s technology and prevents them from using the apps that Apple restricted.
The U.S. Department of Justice is filing a lawsuit for violating antitrust laws because Apple is not giving its rivals a chance. The tactics they are using to take control of the industry and eliminate competition is not fair because rival companies do not offer Apple-like technology.
¨I think that breaking the trust laws is very wrong, but for most people, Apple is the best option, since all the devices can connect with each other,¨ said sophomore Erin Webre.
Apple’s best-selling product is the iPhone, making most of their money from this product. The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, kept demanding China for iPhone production. Because the U.S. does not have the correct manufacturing plant to produce Apple technology, Tim Cook pushed China by forcing production to make more iPhones. Because of this, Apple had to pay $490 million to settle the lawsuit of monopolizing behavior.
Now that Apple’s vision of keeping their buyers has turned against them, they are being exposed to the public. The results of their ideas and strategies are backfiring on them, possibly making them lose customers. Apple’s reputation is at stake because of this situation. The lawsuit will take awhile to settle out, potentially affecting Apple’s reputation among its customers.
