SHEIN is a popular shopping website that sells low-priced clothes and accessories. Items from this website are from China and shipped mostly to America and other countries. Harsh labor is forced among SHEIN workers who are faced with poor work conditions.
SHEIN has a bad name for abusing their workers and having a lawsuit filed against them for stealing designs. People still proceed to buy from them, not being aware of what goes on behind the website.
Employees work 18 hour shifts with no weekends off, and only have one day off per month. They are paid less than minimum wage, while getting abused physically and verbally.
SHEIN´s prices do not mean that the quality is good.
¨I think the clothes are good but the material could be better if they are going to enslave kids,¨ said sophomore Davinna Clemmons.
SHEIN has denied many accusations about the investigations. Although, it has not shut down the concerns about children working for pennies.
Social media has been a big influence to spread this news, mostly on TikTok where the brand is advertised. Customers have found ¨help me¨ messages on tags of their clothing. SHEIN translated the messages into being an awkward instruction to carefully wash your clothes and not a message for help due to the language barrier.
With these ideas and rumors going around, there is no proven evidence that SHEIN workers need help. They do have bad pay, but the other assumptions could be rumors. Less people are buying from the brand because of all the accusations and not knowing what to believe.
China has been a place we get a lot of our items and clothing from. There are other brands in China that don’t pay their workers well that we don’t know about. China overall has been a place known for this and something that needs more recognition.
