The MLB worked with Nike to create new uniforms for this upcoming baseball season. They’re supposed to help with performance and to cool players down during the summer.
This year, the pants are thinner for the purpose of being more breathable. Although the new pants have some positives, there have been some complaints about them being see-through.
“We all liked what we had. We understand business, but I think everyone wanted to keep it the same way, for the most part, with some tweaks here or there,” said Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner via Fox Sports.
Nike has been designing MLB pants for years alongside Fanatics who has been manufacturing the pants. There haven’t been problems with the pants until this year when they introduced this new design.
“We always put the athlete at the center of everything we do. We worked closely with MLB players, teams and the league to create the most advanced uniforms in the history of MLB which are lighter and more flexible,” according to Nike via ESPN.
But the MLB players are complaining about the pants.
“I know everyone hates them,” said Turner via APnews.
Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the MLB released a video of the players raving about the new uniforms saying how good they were at the All Star game. But when they started wearing them, they started complaining.
“Change can be good, and I’m a big fan of these!!!” The Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout said via ESPN.
A statement that came out from MLB said that the material of the pants hasn’t changed at all since last year. They only changed the material of the jersey. They did explain that the sizing and the style have also changed.
Players have also noticed the stitching at the top of their jerseys doesn’t match their teammates’ jerseys, making it look off.
However, the players that don’t like the pants have realized they don’t have much say in the matter and they’re going to have to adjust to them being tighter and see-through, due to the fact that Nike doesn’t see a problem with the pants, even after hearing the players’ complaints.
