Are you interested in joining a school club? Explore exciting opportunities by joining FCCLA – Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America.
FCCLA is a student-led, national organization aligned with Family and Consumer Science (FCS) Classes. FCCLA empowers members to make a difference and give back to the community through advocacy, events, and volunteerism.
As a part of FCCLA, you can develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and other life knowledge. You can prepare for college and adulthood by creating projects for competition at state and national levels as well as participating in various volunteer opportunities/events. FCCLA is all about building strong communities through helping individuals and families.
FCCLA hosts many community events throughout the year; some of these events include FCCLA’s annual Trunk or Treat, Wrapping Party, and Drunk and Distracted Driving event. You may remember the Drunk and Distracted Driving event from last year, when the FVPD and many other organizations came to the courtyard during lunch the week before prom to raise awareness about driving safety.
There can be many stereotypes around FCCLA and FCS classes, but they reach beyond just teaching about household duties, and they are inclusive of everyone. At FVHS, some FCS classes offered are Principles of Family and Human Services, Counseling and Mental Health, Foods and Nutrition, Child Development, etc. These classes equip students with essential life skills, like how to fill out paperwork for a job, cook nutritious meals, maintain healthy relationships, manage finances, and so much more.
