The FVHS dance team is offering a dance team junior camp to any 2nd through 8th grade students on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at FVHS. This is the first time this will be offered with the newly formed dance team. The camp will be led by FVHS dance teacher and dance team coach, Deborah Gray, as well as assistants from our own FVHS dance team members. Choreography will be created by Gray and team captains. The registration fee is $30, including a complimentary t-shirt for the event. The registration is now open for all eligible children.

Junior, and one of the dance team captains, Sophie Baker, said, ¨At the camp we will be teaching them jazz and hip hop combos. We will also play some fun games and teach them a dance to perform at halftime with us at a basketball game.¨

All children that attend the camp will have the opportunity to perform a dance with the FVHS dance team at the FVHS mens varsity basketball game against Corinth Holders High School on Jan. 26, 2024, at 7:45 p.m.

There is so much that can be taught to these children through this camp and through the art of dance.

Junior and dance team member Megan Roseman said, ¨Dance has helped me express myself openly through movement, helped me grow in my friendships and community, and has allowed me to learn how to communicate and learn teamwork.¨

This camp is so much more than three hours on a Saturday to these dance team members. They want to be able to show everyone how important this team can be to our school and our community.

¨I think it’s important to get parents and kids excited about the dance team and hopefully inspire kids to try out when they get to high school. For me the team has taught me how to lead an amazing group of dancers while also having fun. Dance team is a constant in my life. No matter what is going on, I always know that I have my team to support me,¨ Baker said.

This camp will not only be important to the kids who attend, but to the FVHS dance program overall.

Roseman said, ¨I think the FVHS dance department isn´t as showcased, and I feel like these camps will showcase our school program more. I think it’s really important to hold camps like these so we can have and showcase more interesting smaller kids to look up to and want to be on the team in the future.¨

The team hopes that this camp is a success with the community, and they are able to do it again in future years.
