The swim season just started, and the FVHS team had their first meet on Nov. 18.
This season they have a young team, and they are looking forward to having a successful outcome this year.
Junior Mikaela Pohlmeier has been swimming competitively since she was ten and here at FVHS for three years.
“There are returning swimmers and new swimmers. I think as a whole we need to improve and help one another get better, but for a first meet we did pretty well,” said Pohlmeier.
Sophomore Ethan Fairbairn has been swimming for FVHS for two years. This will be his second year.
“I started with doing swim lessons first when I was eight, and then I just fell in love with it, so I continued with swim,” said Fairbairn.
Both of the swimmers agree that it’s the people they swim with and the environment that makes them want to swim.
Caroline DiNuzzo is a sophomore at FVHS, and she started swimming when she was 9 years old. DiNuzzo says that the Olympians she would see inspired her.
“When I was younger, I would see Olympians like Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky, and I would want to do what they did. It inspired me to see them doing something that I could only ever dream of. When I started swimming, it was sort of like making that dream from when I was younger become a reality,” said DiNuzzo.
The next meet is on Friday, Jan. 12. Show up and support our swim team at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC.
