Unfortunately, the removal of series and movies from various platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max and more, has been occurring for quite some time. This has sparked complaints from subscribers of these platforms. 

Series come and go after some time due to the rights and contracts between the platform and creators, as well as an attempt to cut costs. The contracts between platforms and creators are what allow for the show to be put on that platform. 

Fans of various series that have been removed express disappointment. 

Sophomore at Willow Spring High School, Kaitlin Lassere stated, “It’s really upsetting seeing your childhood and favorite shows be gone.” 

Lassere’s favorites, such as “Lockwood & Co,” “Jujutsu Kaisen,” “Erased,” and more have been either discontinued or removed from certain platforms entirely. The rights to other shows such as “Friends,” “The Big Bang Theory,” and “Criminal Minds” were removed from Netflix due to licensing and agreements between platforms.

“I’m disappointed they took away ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ from Netflix,” said FVHS junior Biruktyet Dereje.

As with many items and services nowadays, the price of streaming platforms are on the climb, but some combinations of subscriptions are being offered. 

“Lately there have been bundles like ESPN, Disney+ and Hulu in one so it’s not much of a problem,” said Lassere.

However, prices are still a cause of frustration, especially considering the removal of certain content.

“Not everyone can pay for that,” said FVHS junior Liz Torres. 

It is upsetting to viewers that only have access to certain platforms to see their favorite shows disappear from the streaming services they have. It makes it more difficult to watch the variety of shows promised by streaming services, leaving customers dissatisfied.
