Mega-popstar, Taylor Swift, released her new film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” on Oct. 13, which simulates the experience of attending one of her concerts.
Taylor Swift has been reigning the music scene since her debut back in 2006. She is currently the number one female artist on Spotify with over 100 million monthly listeners. After nearly 17 years, she has been nominated for a total of 46 Grammys, out of those, 12 were won, and she’s also won 14 MTV Awards.
This is currently her sixth tour in which she has grossed over $2.2 billion. As she’s done for her most recent tours, she’s also recorded documentaries for fans at home for them to have a similar experience to those who have had the chance to go to one of her concerts.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie begins with a dramatic 13-second countdown to get the full attention of viewers, when the countdown comes to an end, the song “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” from the “Lover” album is performed by the artist herself. The crowd sings along in harmony.
Taylor Swift is then shown playing her successful hit, “Cruel Summer,” from the “Lover” album. The crowd is swooned in by the amazing performer that Taylor Swift is and the infectious rhythm of the song. The song recently reached over 1 billion Spotify streams. In addition, although the song was released back in 2019, the song recently reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
After nearly an hour and fifty minutes into the movie, Taylor Swift moves on to the “Folklore” section of the concert, which is based on her album “Folklore.” Her fifth song in this section was “My Tears Ricochet.” This song is a fan-favorite of Swifties due to the heartbreak displayed in the lyrics. Viewers can hear the emotion in the voices of Swift and the crowd.
She then switches things up mid-song to include the bridge of “Illicit Affairs.” Attendees of the concert and viewers in theaters could all feel the emotion that Swift was conveying with this stellar performance of the songs.
Junior Brooke Dilley stated, “One of my favorite Taylor Swift songs is ‘Illicit Affairs,’ and seeing her rendition of it, and the amount of emotion that translated from her performance, was absolutely amazing!”
This section of the concert was a fan favorite for Swifties.
Freshman Iva Ramos stated, “My favorite part of the movie was the ‘Illicit Affairs’ and ‘My Tears Ricochet’ mashup. In this part of the concert, she starts by singing ‘My Tears Ricochet’ with a choir following behind her. She seamlessly blends the bridge of ‘Illicit Affairs’ as she gives a breathtaking performance. Her new interpretation of her music is beautiful, and she proves it with her astounding performances during ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.’”
The pop star then ends the movie and concert with her song “Karma” from the “Midnights” album. After a long concert, the crowd was still full of energy and not ready to say goodbye to Swift. She then gave a performance of a lifetime which ended with her and her dancing crew bowing towards the crowd and Swift descending into the stadium floor.
Overall the movie was a pleasure to watch. Even if you are not a Swiftie, you’ll love this movie and the vibe of all the different songs.
