You probably know that Halloween comes up at the end of October, but did you know that there are dozens of other fun days you can celebrate during this month?

The process of creating a national holiday and getting it officially approved is simple. You’d have to submit a request to Chase’s Calendar of Events, the company that organizes official special days and events. It would have to fit a specific criteria, and even then only about 20 to 25 out of thousands of requests are approved.

Nevertheless, there’s a day for just about anything, ranging from foods to activities and hobbies to random celebrations. Most are sponsored by specific companies and organizations with the intention of promoting their product.

World Mental Health Day was celebrated on Oct. 10.

Sophomore Charlie Halkuff said, “I think it’s important because people don’t really focus on mental health, so it can definitely bring some attention to people who might be struggling with it.”

Some fun examples of fun ones include National Name Your Car Day on Oct. 2, National Do Something Nice Day and Get Funky Day on Oct 5. Moldy Cheese and Kick Butt day are both on Oct. 9. Be Bald and Be Free day is on Oct. 14, followed by Grouch Day on Oct. 15 and No Beard Day on Oct. 18.

Different variations of Chocolate Day are celebrated annually. In addition to two national days in October and December 28, World Chocolate day is on July 7, and International Chocolate Day is celebrated on Sep. 13.

As Halloween comes closer and highlights the start of fall, seasonal holidays show up with more frequency, such as Pumpkin Day on Oct. 16. Frankenstein Friday is held on the last Friday in October. Candy Corn, which is considered a classic Halloween candy, has its own holiday on Oct. 30.

National Knock Knock Joke Day and Caramel Apple Day are the last for this month, coinciding with Halloween.
