Students have to be in school for seven hours a day, five days a week, doing school work. That is 35 hours a week, not counting the hours it takes them to do or study at home. This leaves kids with little to no time to spend with family or friends.
Schools should require a period called study hall. It could be even just 30 minutes in the middle of the school day for students to study, catch up on work, or get ahead in classes. When students use this time they will have less work to do at home or over the weekend, leaving them with more time to focus on extracurricular activities like sports.
Also, by having a designated time for study hall, it gives students the opportunity to study for future tests they might have, therefore increasing their academic performances.
Sophomore Amina Kaissi said, “In middle school, they used to give us a 30 minute study hall in between 4th and 5th period, and it was very useful. I got all my homework done so I wasn’t stressed in my next class. I also used that time for some last minute studying for many of my tests, and I ended up getting good grades on all of them.”
A poll was put up on the Roaring Bengal’s Instagram page, and more than half of the students that voted, were in favor of having a study hall.
A great amount of students could really benefit from a study hall period.
By not allowing students to have a study hall, they could be so stressed that they will drop out of school and work at McDonalds for the rest of their lives. If you want students to be successful in the future, then give them a study hall.
