Halloween is celebrated on Oct. 31 and some of the popular costumes from last year consist of spider-man, dinosaurs, “Stranger Things” characters and witches. The reason for these costumes being the most popular was due to the movies that came last year. For example, “Hocus Pocus” inspired witch costumes and the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home” inspired Spider-Man costumes. Wednesday was also a common costume last year due to the series “Wednesday.
This year, some of the costumes that are anticipated to be popular for Halloween could be Ken or Barbie from the “Barbie” movie, the Little Mermaid, Taylor Swift, and “Five Nights At Freddy’s” characters. There are many people who are likely to dress up as these due to their success and popularity.
However, for younger kids, popular costumes are princesses, witches, and Disney characters. While for young boys, popular costumes may consist of Mario characters and Sonic.
Kids may also dress up as characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because of the movie that was released this year. Meanwhile witch costumes and princess costumes are classics for any kids that celebrate Halloween. Around 3.1 million children usually dress up as princesses each year.
Sophomore Angela Ramirez said, “Barbie and Ken will probably be one of the popular Halloween outfits for any duos. The outfits they wear are iconic and attention-grabbing. Most likely couples or friends are going to be dressing up as Ken and Barbie.”
The “Barbie” movie was directed by Greta Gerwig. This movie is claimed to be popular because Barbie has been a famous doll since her debut in an international Toy Fair in New York City Mar. 9, 1959. Since Barbie has been around for so long, the franchise has many fans of all ages that are willing and eager to see the it. The movie has profited a total of over $1.38 billion worldwide, while also becoming one of the highest earnings films from a female filmmaker. The “Barbie” movie is currently ranked number 25 of the highest-grossing movies. It is one of the only two movies that reached a high rank in profits this year 2023.
The “Super Mario Bros.” movie, which was released in 2023, was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. It ranks number 15 on best earnings and number 2 on best earnings of 2023. This is also similar to the “Barbie” movie due to how long Mario has been around and him being a popular character for all ages.
Sophomore Gianna Burgos from Willow Spring High School said, “There might be some people dressed up as some characters from ‘FNAF’ since the movie is coming out soon.”
“FNAF” costumes may also be popular due to the movie coming out this year on Oct. 27. This may be more popular in young adults and teens since “FNAF” has only been around since 2014. Due to it being a horror and thriller film, it would be a great fit for a Halloween costume.
Halloween costume popularity usually all ties back to pop culture and trending subjects.
