The Carolina Hurricanes start their season soon, and with their loss in the Eastern Conference Championship last season, they are looking for revenge.
The Hurricanes are opening the regular season against the Ottawa Senators, Wednesday, Oct. 11. The last time Carolina played Ottawa, Feb. 24, 2023, the Hurricanes won 4-0
Last season’s home opener ended in a resounding victory by Carolina, against the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-1.
This year is looking like they could make a playoff push, with multiple players getting off of the IR after last season.
One of these players is Andrei Svechnikov, who tore his ACL last season. This is good news for Carolina, because he had the third most goals out of anyone on the team, while only playing 64 games.
The Hurricanes won their first two preseason games, 5-2 against Tampa Bay and 4-1 against Florida.
They lost the next two preseason games, against Florida 4-2, and 4-0 against Tampa Bay. This circumstance could be chalked up to the fact that it was a doubleheader, and they didn’t have the cohesiveness of a full Hurricanes squad.
“They’re very successful together. If you really dive in and watch them, they do it the right way,” said assistant coach Tim Gleason, according to ESPN.
Carolina’s re-addition of Tony DeAngelo has the potential to add some goals from the blue line.
DeAngelo had 11 goals and 31 assists last season with Philadelphia. He had 10 goals and 41 assists in the 2021-22 season, when he was with Carolina.
The Hurricanes first game will be on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m., against the Ottawa Senators, at PNC Arena in Raleigh.
