Quality of mobile games has drastically decreased
December 15, 2022
Mobile games are a great pastime that you can enjoy anywhere because of the portability of your phone. With so much variation in the games, anyone can find the game for them. When mobile games were at their peak they were fun, simple, and enjoyable; however, with mobile games having so many flaws nowadays, it makes it hard to enjoy them.
There are so many old mobile games that one can think of that were so simple yet when brought up, can be relayed with a good memory. A few examples of iconic Mobile Games are Doodle Jump, Candy Crush, Flappy Bird, Crossy Road, Angry Birds, Subway Surfer, Cooking Mama, Temple Run, Jetpack Joyride and so so many more. However, most Mobile game developers nowadays don’t even try. They just rush out games, throw tons of ads and purchase options on it, and call it done. Sure some of the old games had ads on them, but they were balanced with the amount of time you played. Nowadays you can’t play a game for two minutes without getting an ad. The ads are also always so unnecessarily difficult to exit out of. They put a tiny exit button in the corner of your screen, and when you click on it, it opens up the app store or something on your web browser.
Another huge problem with mobile games nowadays is when a game is really popular on a console or PC, they will make a mobile version. In theory, making a mobile version of a popular game sounds like a good idea, but they were made for their original platform for a reason. Transferring games to mobile almost every time is horribly done, especially for shooter-type games. The controls are janky and the graphics are horrible. The game was not made to be run on a phone. Examples include Apex Legends, Fortnite, and PUBG.
Console games have been transferred to mobile well by changing the game around. Stumble Guys is a remake of a very well-known game called Fall Guys. Stumble Guys is pretty much the same as Fall Guys but with slight differences to avoid suing and changes to the controls to fit mobile. To be fair, Fall Guys is a pretty basic game that didn’t need many changes to be fit for mobile, which proves a point that mobile games are meant to be simple.
Another thing that is negatively affecting mobile games is Apple Arcade. Apple Arcade is where you pay money every month to get access to a wide variety of mobile games. Apple Arcade is bad though because who in their right mind is going to pay money to play mobile games? On top of that, the games on Apple Arcade are not original games, like Fruit Ninja, Cooking Mama, and Crossy Road. Apple Arcade takes good games and makes them non-accessible without purchase which prevents new generations from enjoying classic mobile games.
Lastly, possibly the most annoying thing when it comes to mobile games is whenever there are good mobile games, greedy cheapskates will fill the whole app store with bad remakes of the games. One of the most well-known games with a lot of cheap remakes is Candy Crush. Candy Crush was a super popular game that appealed to all ages. It is simple and has an interchangeable theme, which makes it easy prey for cheapskates to make bad remakes for easy cash.
Mobile games are not as good as they used to be. Most mobile game developers do whatever’s easiest to pull in cash, from copying other games, putting in-game purchase options everywhere, and filling their games with ads.
