How to enjoy Halloween alone

As the weather cools, the leaves fall, and the days shorten, Halloween draws ever closer. For the unsociable, the holiday can bring the desire to enjoy it, but uncertainty of how to go about it. Do not fret, as there’s a few things you can do to get the most out of the day.

If you’re looking to sit back and relax for Halloween, go out and buy a big bag of your preferred candy, and make sure you have some good scary movies ready to go. I would recommend John Carpenter’s “The Thing” and “Alien.” Just sit back and enjoy, but make sure you turn your lights off. Not only will this enhance your enjoyment of the movies, but it will send the signal to others that you’re not handing out candy.

If movies aren’t your thing, you could turn off the lights, snuggle up into a blanket, and boot up a good horror game. Personally, I’d recommend “Alien Isolation”, a “Resident Evil” game, or any of the “Outlast” games.

If you want to be a little more active and watching movies or playing games is just a bit too boring for you, get involved in decorating. Put up house decorations if you’re able to, and don’t hold back on making it scary. It is the only time of the year it’s acceptable to terrify children after all. If you can get your hands on a motion activated decoration, that’ll be the best for scaring them.

Just like trick or treating, carving a pumpkin is one of those childish things that you’re never truly too old for, so just go for it. If you decide to make a jack-o-lantern, feel free to get creative. It really doesn’t even have to be a face, it should just be whatever you find fun. Also, remember to carve your pumpkin the day of or the day before putting it out, as they can quickly rot once carved.

Another less obvious thing you can do is to try and make Halloween themed food. This would mostly be sweets of one form or another. A lot of recipes for things like cupcakes, cookies, and pies can be found easily online, and it could be a fun test of your cooking skills.

Lastly, trick or treating is something you’re never really too old for. So if you’re really feeling the urge, or even just want to show off a costume, then why not? You only get so many Halloweens, so why not make every one the best?
