Imagine someone taking over your home and trying to destroy it. This all happens to Thor Odinson in his movie Thor Ragnarok. Thor Ragnarok came out Nov. 3rd, 2017. This movie is a movie made for laughs and giggles. Thor Ragnarok is the third in the Thor movies and made the audience fall back in love with him. The cast includes amazing actors like Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, and many more famous actors.

Thor Ragnarok is the first Thor movie to actually show who Thor is. The two other movies stereotyped him into the blonde, dumb, muscular, god of thunder. In this movie, we get to see a side of him that the Marvel cinematic universe has never explored until now. Taika Waititi brings back this and the relationship of brothers between Thor and Loki.

There are so many iconic moments in this movie. When Thor asks Dr. Strange where his brother is, there is an iconic moment when Loki falls out of Dr. Strange’s portal, “ I have been falling for 30 minutes.” This soon became a famous scene that people used on all social media platforms.  When Thor sees who he is fighting and exclaims, “We know each other. He’s a friend from work” was just a hilarious moment.  The Director, Taika Waititi, uses all these jokes in order to sharpen the image of Thor. He isn’t just a pretty blonde; he is smart and clever, too.

The jokes in this movie are great, but the cinematography and visual effects are out of this world. The cinematographer, Javier Aguirresarobe,  does this in such compelling ways. He uses cutting-edge technology to create these scenes, like the flashback Valkyrie has. The visual effects make this movie.  The team at Framestore worked with the director and were excited to make these sequences on very short notice. Alex Wajsbrot was the leader of the team making this a reality. This movie uses many other forms of technology like CGI. The visual effects in the movie were very important for Waititi. For the flashback scene with Valkyrie, Waiti called his friend and actor friend Stuart Rutherford and VFX artist Carlo Van de Roer to help him. Rutherford and Van de Roer designed a rig to move a light at 10,000 feet per second.

The entire Hela costume is computer-generated. The people from Framestore were very excited to work on this project according to Alexis Wajsbrot, who is the VFX supervisor. It was the first time that they got to work posing hulk and getting all the fighting scenes right. The fact that most of this movie is CGI shows the dedication to this art form. Hulk was a big part of this movie, which is refreshing because we haven’t seen him in a while.

It was great seeing Hulk back in the movies. According to the movie’s timeline, Hulk had been on Sakaar for a long time. The last movie Hulk was in was Avengers: Age of Ultron. Age of Ultron was set in 2015 and Thor Ragnarok was set in 2017. It’s nice to see the big green monster back at it. The humor between Bruce and Hulk is crazy. The way that Bruce didn’t know that he was stuck on Sakar adds more humanity to him. He is a person stuck between a human and a monster.

In the previous movies, Thor has only talked about one sibling, Loki. But in this movie, he meets someone he never knew. Hela, their older sister, is trying to take over Asgard. It turns out that his older sister just wants to talk over Asgard.  Let’s just talk about Cate Blanchett. She looks wonderful in this movie, the dark hair and the green outfit make it just that much better.

To me, this movie shows how hilarious marvel movies can get. This movie is wonderful to me. The first time I saw this movie was when I fell in love with Marvel all over again. This movie made me fall in love with Thor. It is the first Thor movie I’ve ever seen and it made me want to watch the ones that came before. Even though this movie may have been seen as a bad movie for some big actors,  this bettered the fun parts of the Marvel movies.
